This season has been all about going tartan. Whether it was Phillip Lim’s perfectly constructed trousers or Alberta Ferretti’s floor length gowns that had you going gaga, the plaid pattern took center stage in many of the biggest fall collections. However, no one conquered the print quite like the mastermind behind Céline, Phoebe Philo. The designer has a penchant for setting trends, and this time was no exception. With the popularity of mixing prints still holding strong in the industry, Philo mixed and matched exaggerated versions of plaid for her fall collection, and it was this very idea that inspired today’s ensemble.
I know, there are some who say that there are rules when it comes to mixing prints. However, when it comes to fashion, rules are simply relative to what is going on in the industry at the time. One season it is about clashing and the next it is about finding cohesion between the pieces you are pairing together. It can all seem a bit confusing, and daunting for that matter, so I say play around with prints that have similar colors schemes and the rest is completely up to you.
