My Style. Enamored with Embroidery

There are times when a trend is simply so beautiful that I happily embrace it without a second thought. However, sometimes my adoration for a trend reaches such a fervor, and I grab onto it so tightly that within a few, short weeks my closet is bursting at the seams with it.

(Cue the chorus from my favorite Cardigans’ track, Love Fool: Love me, love me. Say that you love me.)

What trend is getting so much of my attention and adoration these days?

Embroidery.

The intricate, stitched detail isn’t anything new in the world of fashion. However, this season designers are pushing the boundaries when it comes to where and how they apply this technique. Sheer fabrics are boasting meticulously-placed florals. Basic staples such as t-shirts and button ups are being upgraded with beautiful shoulder and collar details. We even saw embroidered denim take center stage in collections like the Gucci’s pre-fall offering, and some serious panache also being added to handbags in a handful of other collections as well.

With all this fancy stitch work being applied to so many pieces, it is easy to go a little overboard with styling though. So, remember to keep the rest of your ensemble simple and as casual as possible. This will allow the embroidered piece to truly shine on its own, and also keep the look effortless, instead of stuffy.
