There truly are few things that get my heart racing like a blouse with an exaggerated sleeve. However, give me a flutter sleeve with open- back details, and I may just double over from the heart palpitations caused by the all the fashion-related excitement.
Mango Mini Top Handle Bag
Whether you pair it down with jeans and a tee, or use it to compliment your LBD, the top handle bag is bringing some serious ladylike sophistication back. However, instead of the classic versions of the past (think neutral colors in a boxy silhouette), designers have added a touch of flair to their collections by crafting top handle bags in exotic materials, highly-saturated colors and decorative details that range from the braided frames at Fendi to the circular embellishments at Louis Vuitton.
This trend is so versatile, because it can up the ante on almost any look you pair it with, and it comes in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. I chose to add some panache to my current denim and men’s button-down situation with this red option, and my mostly monochrome wardrobe just hasn’t been the same since.
ASOS Pointy Toe Mules
Of all the footwear trends to make their way onto our feet this summer, mules have honestly came as a bit of a surprise. With their bulkier structure and need to be created in heavier materials, the shoe doesn’t exactly scream summer. However, almost every spring collection ( Proenza Schouler created a two-tone, pointy toe option that has me swooning) featured a variation of the shoe designs, which had me contemplating the power of this particular trend, and why it has been one that is lingering, while also transforming, for several seasons now.
If you read this post on Anchal Project, you are well-acquainted with how the company is bringing about social and economical change with repurposed, cotton saris. This week, The Chic Street is teaming up with Anchal, and Revelry Boutique Gallery for the event, Festival Fashion for Good.
With InStyle Magazine recently naming the bandana as this year’s hottest festival fashion trend, me and Josh Johnson of The Kentucky Gent will be giving tips and tricks on how to style Anchal Project bandanas at the event on Wednesday, July 13.
“We are excited to partner with one of our favorite local boutiques and retail partners, Revelry,” says Colleen Clines, Anchal’s Co-founder and CEO. Colleen adds, “Festival season is such a fun time to experiment with your style and we want to help guests express their individuality with our one-of-a-kind pieces that are changing lives.”
The event will raise awareness for sustainable fashion, while also allowing the local community and festival-goers to support Louisville’s own Anchal Project. Representation from The Forecastle Foundation will be in attendance as well as a professional henna tattoo artist to complete the whole festival look.

Bolo Chocker by SheIn\ Nasty Gal Blouse
Ditch the skinny scarves of last season, and get lasso’d into the new bolo- style choker trend for summer. Neck accessories are still going strong, but have changed form with the changing temps. If you are one to take a minimalist approach, there are several options to accessorize with. However, for all those wanting to make a serious statement with this piece, choose a piece that boasts embellishments, or even layer yours with your favorite necklace.
ASOS Chain Handbag (The Chic, Yet Cheap Find)
When it comes to the top handbag trend for spring 2016, becoming a member of the chain gang is the way to go. Yes, the chain strap handbags are already as much a closet staple as the little black dress. However, unlike their predecessors, this season’s offerings boast bold colors, exotic materials, and embellished adornments that allow the wearer to truly express their own personal style, and take that little black dress you’ve had in your closet to the next level.

Along with chokers, kitten heels and mis-matched statement earrings, clear accessories are a trend to try this spring and summer. Though I have always been a bit skeptical of wearing anything transparent when it comes to fashion, top designers put my mind at ease after featuring luxe PVC adornments in their recent collections. Loewe featured chic plastic handbags and Maison Margiela topped his models with sophisticated sun hats in this durable material. However, the Simone Rocha rubber sandals that gave a serious nod to the iconic Jellies of my youth are what really got me excited to try this new, and always-evolving, trend.
