If you are talking about fall texture, then you are talking about velvet. The fabric has made a huge comeback this season, so designers are putting it on everything from fashionable footwear to blazers, ornate handbags and even chic dresses.
Tights just got a
lot of little competition. Why, you ask? Well, pants of all silhouettes are being layered under dresses– giving us style mavens more options when it comes to the art of getting dressed.
Zara Patch Polo
A classic item that has been needing a reboot for some time now is the polo shirt. Noticing the need for a a fresh take on this particular item, designers decided to put their own spin on the staple this season. From the sheer version that was masterfully layered at Miu Miu to the bold print found at Stella McCartney, the polo isn’t reserved for the tennis court, or a stuffy brunch anymore.
I decided to opt for a version that boasts the patches that are making so many waves this season. The cool mix between varsity jacket and auto mechanic kind of had me reeling for this particular shirt, and is an instant conversation piece as well.
ASOS Pointy Toe Mules
Of all the footwear trends to make their way onto our feet this summer, mules have honestly came as a bit of a surprise. With their bulkier structure and need to be created in heavier materials, the shoe doesn’t exactly scream summer. However, almost every spring collection ( Proenza Schouler created a two-tone, pointy toe option that has me swooning) featured a variation of the shoe designs, which had me contemplating the power of this particular trend, and why it has been one that is lingering, while also transforming, for several seasons now.
Bolo Chocker by SheIn\ Nasty Gal Blouse
Ditch the skinny scarves of last season, and get lasso’d into the new bolo- style choker trend for summer. Neck accessories are still going strong, but have changed form with the changing temps. If you are one to take a minimalist approach, there are several options to accessorize with. However, for all those wanting to make a serious statement with this piece, choose a piece that boasts embellishments, or even layer yours with your favorite necklace.

Along with chokers, kitten heels and mis-matched statement earrings, clear accessories are a trend to try this spring and summer. Though I have always been a bit skeptical of wearing anything transparent when it comes to fashion, top designers put my mind at ease after featuring luxe PVC adornments in their recent collections. Loewe featured chic plastic handbags and Maison Margiela topped his models with sophisticated sun hats in this durable material. However, the Simone Rocha rubber sandals that gave a serious nod to the iconic Jellies of my youth are what really got me excited to try this new, and always-evolving, trend.
If you are looking to add a little flare to your wardrobe this spring, take a cue from the bell- sleeved confections Phoebe Philo incorporated into her fall collection for Céline. All it took was one exaggerated silhouette sleeve, and instantly I knew that my arms had the potential to quickly become one of my new favorite accessories.
